After the lesson on the network effects, I feel that the network effects of Web 2.0 are affecting the world with its positive and negative effects and causing almost everyone in the world to feel its effects and embrace it. That lesson tells me more on how different websites make use of the different network multiply effects to achieve their aims, like Facebook, which brings people closer through its social networking capabilities, and also like how different companies like Microsoft and the American Express being n-sided markets. Seriously speaking, I never thought that the term ‘n-sided market’ exist as I always thought that there is only seller to customer relationship. The lesson really make me understand more of how the network effects of Web 2.0 works and enlightens me more about the network multiply effects. It has brought me closer to know what Web 2.0 is all about and its different effects to the society.
The network effects of Web 2.0, I don’t really know how it benefits me, but all I can say is that right now, I have a Facebook account, use Google and play video games. This means, I actually have benefited the n-sided markets by helping them earn more revenue through using search engines and services. Hence, all I can say about how I have benefited of the network effects of Web 2.0 is through using the different types of search engines and services offered by easing the difficulty to find information as well as being use to socialise with people like using Facebook. It has also made my ways of communicating with friends, sharing information with them and playing with them online. This is all I can say about how the network effects of Web 2.0 benefits me. :)

Network effects of Web 2.0 able people to interact with people on the net. Or just by one website like facebook. Facebook or social website allow people from one end able to reach out to the person at the other end! &this is very convenience :D Also network effect allow people to "stalk" each other via their blog or the social website. Where they post their daily life, what they did or what they had past by that is interesting. As people reach out to one another via one website they can also do some business out of it. which is by selling stuff online, for example blogshop or creating a page at facebook.
Network effects, also help people that lost contact for years to find each other via the net !
Through this week lesson, I learnt how great web 2.0 can be. One of it is because of the fact that it allows us to interact with others who has common interests as us or with people that we know. Another advantage of web 2.0 is because it is a good platform for companies to advertise their products so that others can get to know their products. Other than that, I've also learnt about the positive and negative network effects together with the causes of these effects. How I have benefited from web 2.0 should be how I managed to make friends with strangers through the common interests that we have or the songs that we like. I have also managed to stay in contact with my friends from primary and secondary school through web 2.0.
I've also created a blog and link a youtube video to my blog, add the google map that shows the Ngee Ann Poly convention centre for this weeks lesson.
In conclusion, web 2.0 has helped us in interacting with others and helps to shorten the gap that with we have with other people on Earth to six steps. so that we can have more friends.
During this week's lesson, I've learnt about how easy it is for advertisers to advertise their products on largely visited sites like facebook and youtube. Since as many as 400 million people all over the world use facebook, it is the perfect platform to make your product or service known to the world! This is one example of the network effects of Web 2.0.
However there are not only positive effects to it but also a negative side to it...
It is mind-blowing to know about the 6 degree of separation theory. It is definitely shocking to know that everyone online is kinda related to each other either by having mutual friends or mutual interest. Yes, I understand that this is good as we can make more friends and stuff but to come to think of it, it also helps stalkers have a easier time hunting down their preys!!
As such, when it comes to personal things online, we have to know what and what not to put up.
As for the blog assignment, this is the link to mine : http://yuritastic.blogspot.com/
Network effects had no doubt linked people from all around the world together. Most commonly used is social networking. For example, Facebook and Twitter. In Facebook, we can add our relatives in another country. Same goes for twitter. We're linked in just 6 steps away. There are also direct and indirect social network where we use occasionally.
Direct networking such as fax are rarely used nowadays. Phones are always being used by almost everybody to keep in touch with other people. Because not many owns a fax machine.
Indirect networking such as DVD players and toner cartridges are used nowadays. These system are common and needed by people. Hence, they added value to the service. These are just the few effects. There are more and i believe that more will emerge.
This lesson has taught me about the positive and negative sides of network effects. It has also taught me that sometimes the scale of the impact can be wide-ranging. I now understand why there are annoying advertisements when I search for information or stuff on Google and Facebook. I feel that Wikipedia has greatly benefitted from the positive side of Network effects, as without it, Wikipedia would have become a reliable and quick source of information in the first place.
The 6 degree of separation theory is an interesting theory. As the web evolves, eventually the whole world would be connected or related to each other via the theory. For example, famous singers may have a Facebook account. They may have friends whose friends’ friend may be you. In essence, it allows us to be related and eventually reach almost anyone via the web. Naturally, with such ease of contact, Stalkers and other people with bad intentions would also be able to reach you, and hence we must be careful when we are on the web. I believe that in the near future, there would be more web 2.0 websites that would take advantage of the positive network effects to earn revenue.
We are taught about the positive and negative network effects of Web 2.0 in this week’s lesson. We learnt that there are four kinds of network effects which are the direct network effects, the indirect network effects, the cross-network effects and the social network effects. All this network effects are connected to us in one way or another. It helps in businesses and advertising where they use these network effects to their advantage. It also helps us, the consumers, by letting us be influenced by the social network, such as finding our friends through Facebook, twitter etc.
I have benefited from this week’s lesson as I, too, are also affected by these network effects. It is to my advantage as it is easier to find my friends. I find the 6-degrees of separation, which is the idea that everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth, truly fascinating. It is interesting as we can be connected to any two people in six steps or less. I do see the connections clearly now between me and my friends.
However, there are also disadvantages such as making it easier to track as we are all connected, having congestion in the net and also other unwanted effects. Since everything is out there, we have to be careful of what we share in the net as not all Web 2.0 is safe.

Network has positive and negative effects. However, i think that it has more positive effects than negative effects. Negative effects include monopolies, resource limitations and overloading of systems. One example is facebook, which is a very popular social networking site. However, it has gotten so popular that other social networking sites like friendster and myspace don't have the chance to expand and compete.
But, the positive effects of networking are definitely very significant. For example, it has generated a lot of revenue for facebook, and also allowed many services and goods to advertise on the website. Of course, not forgetting that it is a platform for many people such as friends and professionals to connect with each other. Forget about the Six Degrees of Separation, with proper online networking, you are just a click away.
I think with all the networking now, the world has definitely gotten smaller and people are more inter-connected than ever. And why so many people still use Web2.0 shows that the positive effects of networking definitely win the negative effects. However, too much of anything is never good, so sometimes people should remember to plug out of the busy network and not get stuck on online networking all the time!
This week's lesson was really insightful and helped me understand the annoying advertisements. I always thought that the people who advertised from website were actually quite stupid as, as they spend a lot of money but, most people ,like me, would just not pay any attentions to advertisement, as there are many phishing advertisements out there.
But now that i have seen the lesson i found out that these people are not stupid as they only have to pay a small amount of money for every person who click the advertisement. Since only people who are interested in the advertisement would view the advertisement so they only have to pay whenever someone who wants to buy their product.
In conclusion I think that Web 2.0 has made the world a better place for everyone but, there are also many side effects to this change and it all depends on the user how he uses Web 2.0 to reap only the benefit and not the bad effects

This lesson taught me many things. For one, i did not know that by advertising could earn one much revenue, however annoying advertising is annoying. Luckily for Firefox users, there is an add-on call 'Ad-block plus', blocking all advertisements, all stalkers rejoice!
Another thing was that networking has changed our lives to an extent where we simply cannot lived without it. We can now make new friends of our friends and many other stuff. This also has its negative effects. An increasing amount in stalkers would be inevitable, especially with people updating whatever they are doing every minute on facebook or twitter.
In conclusion, the web 2.0 has brought this world many advantages and also many disadvantages, all in all, the web 2.0 is something we cannot live without.
This lesson was about the effects of web 2.0. It was interesting to learn about how the physical world is affected by the internet, and how businesses can profit from websites. The web is a very useful and valuable resource for people to use. I believe that soon the world will be controlled by the internet, even more than it already has been.
Making a blog using html is interesting. It is very wordy and slightly confusing. It is very useful though, and a skill which will be necessary in the future, and possibly even now. I found it hard to know what kind of commands to use, however many functions do it themselves. Overall, it is pretty good. I like it. =)
This lesson has taught how Web 2.0 have caused certain network effects. Network effect causes the value of a service to rise as more people uses it. An example is Wikipedia where anyone can be a editor, as such the number of editors rise and Wikipedia is filled with information from these editors. This have definitely benefited me as I can now find information more easily through the use of Wikipedia.
It is also interesting to note how Facebook makes money. It is through their advertising that they are able to make money. This is because over 400 million people uses Facebook, as advertisers is able to reach out to a lot of people if they advertise on Facebook. This is also true for services such as Youtube, where advertisement are around the websites and also sometimes embedded in the video itself. Another very interesting site that not many people know is the million dollar site: http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/. This site sells pixels for $1 each and there is a million pixels here. This site was successful due to the networking effects as many people started checking this site out and advertisers started buying the pixels.
A problem with having all these connections is that it makes malicious programs or phishing sites spread faster. Recently on Facebook I have seen an increase of links leading to phishing sites posted by scripts taking over people's accounts. This is not good and we must be careful while on such social-networking sites.
Before this lesson, I have always been wondering what has all this website been running on? A non- profitable website? apparently not.I have learn during this lesson how does Google and Facebook actually earn profits by allowing people to advertise about their products and there are many different ways to charging the people who wants to advertise their products.
Pay per click concept make it seems they don't earn much but looking at the number of people using the site and thinking the no. of clicks they will get hence allowing them to earn a lot.
The lesson on Web 2.0 provided a concise overview about the networking effect of the internet. This relatively new phenomenon has brought about a slew of opportunities and some dangers.
The business of advertising is revolutionised by the internet, pop-ups, google ads and blog endorsements are powerful tools that we can use for our own profit. The dangers however, include phishing, identity theft and spyware.
The blog is an interesting tool for keeping a journal and even networking. Even for businesses, a blog can help to engage customers and receive feedback. There is a potentially infinite number of tools made available to us by the internet.
After this week lesson, i have learned that the network effects of Web 2.0 had enabled users to communicate with people over the net so as to interact and socialise with their, example friends and family better. Examples of these sites are Facebook, Blogger etc. I have also benefited in many ways from Web 2.0 such as making new friends over the net and also finding friends with similar interest as me. It has also given me a chance to stay in touch with my fellow peers. Through this lesson, i had also created a blog which i never had in the past! In addition, as per told from the tutorial, i had added a YouTube video, Google map and a statistic table to my newly created blog! :D In conclusion i feel that the network effects of web 2.0 had overall made the world a better place for communicating with the people around you.

Web 2.0, a very interesting "creation" I would say. It has brought the world's networking standard to what is Today. I find that Web 2.0 is versatile compared to its old counterpart of Web 1.0. For example, people are able to edit or add information on Wikipedia. This allows information to be spread extremely fast.
Web 2.0 has given birth to numerous social networking sites, such as Facebook, Friendster, Flickr, and even this blogger. The way I'm commenting now is all thanks to Web 2.0. Social Networking Sites are essential to a lot of individual's life. For example, Facebook is extremely widely used by millions of people around the globe. This has made us able to connect to others easily.
But as always, everything comes with advantages and disadvantages. Web 2.0 has introduced many convenient features, but also brought about negative sides as well. People are more susceptible to Mal-wares due to Web 2.0. Hacking is much easier now with the introduction of Web 2.0. For example, there are a lot of Phishing sites which also regularly appear in Facebook.
While I do find Web 2.0 a very innovative creation, it also has its downsides. People are generally becoming lazier due to the very informative and convenient Internet. I believe that there should be a certain extent where people should cross the line between reality and social life that Web 2.0 has brought.
Written/Typed/Spammed/Free-styled by Glen aka Jang Min Gyu
From this lesson, I learnt that those annoying spam mails we keep receiving are not absolutely useless. If one person were to fall for the email, then the scammer would reach their goal.
Same goes for the advertisements at the side of our social networking sites like facebook, just as long as one person takes notice and is interested in any of the advertisements, those advertisers would benefit. This goes hand in hand with the direct network effect. As more people have a facebook account, the value of facebook increases, which also benefits these advertisers as their advertisement will then be open to more people.
Indirect network effect is good for us as costs go down when more people use a product. An example given to us was the ink cartridges for printers, we can now get these cartridges at a lower price as it is now produced in massive numbers, giving it a lower cost.
However, we are told that "users can reach people with just a few clicks" and this may be rather dangerous, where certain information that were actually meant to be "private" is now accessible to strangers whom we don't even know where they come from.
Despite all these, we can't deny the fact that Web 2.0 has brought about much convenience to many these days.

Firstly, I never knew that one could earn so much from a Web 2.0 site like Facebook. All I knew was, one could earn some spare cash there. However I now know how much one could earn by placing an advertisement on a page and receive money just by having people to click on the link. With the effect of the more clicks equals the more profit.
Secondly, I was taught how networking has changed our lives in a way that one relies a lot on it to new friends of friends. For Instance, I have this cute girl as a friend and Nivlac would take this chance to friend her as I am the mutual friend just to stalk a cute girl (what a shame to humanity). This would also prove on of its negative effects. With networking readily available with the help of internet and social media site, it is inevitable to have an increase number in stalker like Nivlac, people who are updating their status constantly (attention seeker) and trying to misuse the site by posting illegal stuffs (explicit picture of oneself, copyrighted stuffs, …) and share it with the rest of the users with the thought of “I’m just sharing my stuffs”.
In conclusion, Web 2.0 has brought live into a static page with its advantages but no matter how much advantages it gives, the disadvantages too will always be there just like “when there light, there is always a shadow left behind.” (a quote created by Calvin (copyrighted))
After our last lesson on network effects, I feel that network effects of Web 2.0 has influenced many people in their online lives in a generally positive manner.
The last lesson taught us on multiplier effects in the internet, in which users of a product inherently add value to it. Products utilizing this effect include Facebook, which gains more value through more users as it grants even greater connectivity. (Through this they can gain revenue through ads etc).Related to this is the subject of the "n-sided market". To be honest, the phrase "n-sided market" sounds like something I would squeeze into a resume to sound good.
On the subject of network effects of Web 2.0, it is definitely a welcome change as it grants us (end users) even greater interconnectivity between each other. Interconnectivity inevitably brings up certain issues on privacy as well (6 degrees of separation), hence it should be exercised with care. Other touchy issues relating to interconnectivity are things like illegal music downloads in which interconnected peers seed each other too.

This lesson taught me many things. For one, i did not know that by advertising could earn one much revenue, however annoying advertising is annoying. Luckily for Firefox users, there is an add-on call 'Ad-block plus', blocking all advertisements, all stalkers rejoice!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing was that networking has changed our lives to an extent where we simply cannot lived without it.

ReplyDeleteMaking a blog using html is interesting.

ReplyDeleteIt is also interesting to note how Facebook makes money.

ReplyDeletePay per click concept make it seems they don't earn much but looking at the number of people using the site and thinking the no. of clicks they will get hence allowing them to earn a lot.

The lesson on Web 2.0 provided a concise overview about the networking effect of the internet. This relatively new phenomenon has brought about a slew of opportunities and some dangers.
ReplyDeleteThe business of advertising is revolutionised by the internet, pop-ups, google ads and blog endorsements are powerful tools that we can use for our own profit. The dangers however, include phishing, identity theft and spyware.
The blog is an interesting tool for keeping a journal and even networking. Even for businesses, a blog can help to engage customers and receive feedback. There is a potentially infinite number of tools made available to us by the internet.

ReplyDeleteAfter this week lesson, i have learned that the network effects of Web 2.0 had enabled users to communicate with people over the net so as to interact and socialise with their, example friends and family better. Examples of these sites are Facebook, Blogger etc.
ReplyDeleteI have also benefited in many ways from Web 2.0 such as making new friends over the net and also finding friends with similar interest as me. It has also given me a chance to stay in touch with my fellow peers.
Through this lesson, i had also created a blog which i never had in the past! In addition, as per told from the tutorial, i had added a YouTube video, Google map and a statistic table to my newly created blog! :D
In conclusion i feel that the network effects of web 2.0 had overall made the world a better place for communicating with the people around you.

ReplyDeleteWeb 2.0 has given birth to numerous social networking sites, such as Facebook, Friendster, Flickr, and even this blogger.

From this lesson, I learnt that those annoying spam mails we keep receiving are not absolutely useless. If one person were to fall for the email, then the scammer would reach their goal.
ReplyDeleteSame goes for the advertisements at the side of our social networking sites like facebook, just as long as one person takes notice and is interested in any of the advertisements, those advertisers would benefit.

ReplyDeleteSecondly, I was taught how networking has changed our lives in a way that one relies a lot on it to new friends of friends.

ReplyDeleteThe last lesson taught us on multiplier effects in the internet, in which users of a product inherently add value to it.
