This week's lesson was very insightful and changed my perspective towards the internet. I never knew there was such a thing called Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.
After the lesson I realised that there were many old websites that i used to visit before which were Web 1.0 and now i no longer go there, due to the fact that there are many new websites that are better because they are more interactive. Web 2.0 is really a evolution of the Internet.
The Semantic Web is really very interesting idea. The fact that the internet can become so human-like and think, learn and have judgment, is really amazing. However after watching many Science Fiction movies like EagleEyes and iRobot, this can really be a little frightening, as computers see us as a danger to ourselves, and to ensure our survival we are forced to do the computer's bidding.
After this lesson I realised how much my world has changed due to the Web 2.0. Now we have so much interaction virtually that we don't need to meet our friends in real- life to know what is happening to them, or to interact with them. I also realised that i no longer go to the library or read books that often as before, as now all the books and information is all on the internet, everything is on the internet.
Flickr was a totally new experience for me, as I had never used it before, However it reminded me a lot of Facebook, we post pictures on Flickr and our friend and other people comment on them. I personally think that flicker is not really a thing that i would continue as I am not a person who would want the whole world to view my pictures or videos. So I would just stick to Facebook and post all my pictures and videos there.
In conclusion, I think that the lesson was really insightful and that we learnt a lot about the internet form it. However it had a lot of information and with few activities the lesson was pretty dry.

After the lesson on Web 2.0, I learn that the Web 2.0 has brought more uses to people like socialising, communications and their different needs. The many websites that provide such services has changed the life of many people in their daily routine, such as checking their Facebook accounts. The Web 2.0 has also change the way of how people learn as now it is so easy to find information on the web by using Google, rather than looking for books about certain information. Indeed, Web 2.0 has bring about many changes to people’s life and I feel that it is only going to better in the future.
Flickr has also show me that people can just share their photos on the website for others to see, thus, letting others see their life through the photos. Flickr is really a good website for people to share different kinds of photos to others and telling their life through those photos. I enjoy the experience of uploading my photos through Flickr as I can tell my life to others through those photos, just like a picture speaking a thousand words.
All in all, I feel that the Web 2.0 has changed my life by shortening the time to search for information as well as causing the people in the world to be closer to each other, thus, proving that Web 2.0 is “shrinking” the world due to the different means of communication and social networks. Finally , the Web 2.0 has a great effect on me as the use of Facebook has help me in communicating and socialising with my friends well in projects and homework and the use of Google has certainly reduce the difficulty in researching in projects. Hence, Web 2.0 can really be one of the greatest inventions of mankind and I really look forward to its evolution!
Firstly, before the lesson, I didn't know what Web 2.0 really was. All I know was that it was a more advanced kind of web experience with better functionality compared to "Web 1.0".
Now, after the lesson, I finally understood what Web 2.0 is and I'm shock to know that I've actually been using this Web 2.0 the whole time. I've learnt that Web 2.0 is the increase of interactivity in Websites. Examples of Web 2.0 includes Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and much, much more. I visit this website very often, almost everyday.
For the case of Flickr, I was introduce to it during the recent CIS lesson and I have already grasped the concept of the website. This just shows how much I've been accustomed to Web 2.0 applications. Overall, I really like the idea of Flickr since I like taking photographs and looking at the photographs taken by other people around the world.
Web 2.0 definitely have changed my life. IT has become part of my life. The way I live now is different, everyday I would have to check my Facebook wall, my friend's wall, new videos that are uploaded on YouTube and much more. I believe with time, the inter webs will play a bigger part of our life when there are more advance things we can accomplish online.
After the lesson on web 2.0, I was able to learn more about what is web 2.0 and what was it's predecessors like. I now know what defines a Web 2.0 page or website. I believe that Web 2.0 has greatly impacted the world as web 1.0 did not allow much interaction between the user and the website. Web 2.0 is instrumental in the development of social networking sites that keeps us connected to friends and enables interactive websites. Without it, websites such as Facebook, blogs and Wikipedia would not have existed. It would have been difficult to search for information online and keep track of my friends or people in my social network. Web 2.0 technology such as Tagging is virtually used everywhere, reducing the time needed for us to search for information.
Before this lesson, I had never used Flickr before and had only a vague understanding of what it does. After using Flickr, I realised how useful Flickr is in sharing photos and videos with other people. With Flickr, our friends and contacts are able to know the interesting things that we saw and heard, and would be able to almost experience the event themselves as they view the photos and videos. The tagging technology also enables us to search for photos and videos more rapidly, reducing the time we need to search.
Overall, I feel that Web 2.0 has enabled the integration of IT into everyone’s lives through the interactivity and a wider scope of information shown and updated. With this integration, it has certainly changed and impacted the way people lived their lives. Web 2.0 has impacted me greatly, as it has reduced the time for me to search information through Wikipedia and Google. It has allowed the rise of Social Networking Sites such as Facebook, which is extremely useful in keeping in touch with my friends, keeping up-to-date with what they are doing and communicating with my friends. Personally, I can’t wait for Web 2.0’s evolution, as if Web 2.0 is already this great, wouldn’t the next generation be even better, smarter, and have more features?
Web 2.0 has been a relatively interesting topic, as it describes an ongoing phenomenon in which I engage in daily. Prior to this lesson, I saw Web 2.0 as more of a vague and undefined term, more or less a description of websites that looked better than Word documents. After the lesson, I have learnt that web 2.0 actually encompasses a lot more than what I thought.
The change towards web 2.0 is definitely welcome, as it has reshaped the internet as a whole. Websites have become interactive and can process data in a much better way; content served towards the audience has become more accurate and everyone is even more connected now through mediums like "tagging" and other social networking functions. (which links to flickr, too)
Flickr is primarily a photo-sharing platform in which users may upload photos and tag people in them. The website itself is rather intelligent - it knows how to process EXIF data and display them accordingly (an example would be where a photo is taken). Flickr also has a proprietary search system which returns very accurate data when you search for pictures, hence it is a very useful platform to look for pictures.
To conclude, web 2.0 has been a very welcome change. Loads of improvement were made.
Before the lesson I have totally no idea what is Web 1.0 &Web 2.0~ Now I know what it is.
Web 2.0 helps to build everyone network via social websites, blogging and more. Both ways, Web 2.0 benefit people. Just like how those famous blogger put advertisement at their sites &earning as much as people with stable job. And definitely it will cause disadvantages, as such tagging people on picture that may cause misunderstanding.
For Flickr, before the lesson I had already enjoy visiting the slides and looking at other photographer pictures. And now it is introduce to the class, more people will know about flickr and they will also share more pictures or video on it. So I will have more pictures to look at. "A picture paint a thousand words" with all those pictures being shared I will get to know more, such as fashion and things that is happening around me and around the whole world.
After the lesson on Web 2.0, i have finally understood the meaning of Web 2.0 as before the lesson i had no clue on what Web 2.0 really was. Also, i came to know that most of the websites that i usually visit are web 2.0 sites. Examples are Facebook, YouTube etc. As for Flickr, i knew that it was mainly a site to upload pictures and stuffs but never really had a chance to try using it. However, after the CIS lesson, i learned how to use Flickr as on uploading pictures and stuffs and also got used to the website rather fast. As for how Web 2.0 has affected my life, i would say that it had definitely made a huge impact in my life as most of the time i m using the computer, i would be surfing Web 2.0 sites. Overall, I’m looking forward to the evolution of Web 2.0 and hopes it helps everyone more in the future.
I think web 2.0 has really improved the internet experience a lot.
Imagine if our website was not interactive, we couldn't like facebook statuses, couldn't click anything on the youtube page, or couldn't do any blogging. It will be a really boring experience isn't it?
Right now, we are so dependent on these websites, we go to these webs every day. If web 2.0 didnt exist, we probably wouldnt even enjoy the internet experience at all. Other than benefiting public use, it has also created a new world for business use. For example, more interactive company homepages, blogshops, and many more.
I think most of us actually take these technologies for granted, we run the browser and these websites just come up like that. We're already so used to these technologies we don't really imagine how it would be like without web 2.0, so i think as potential programmers ourselves who would, in the future, improve technology, we should learn to appreciate these technologies and if possible even think of how to improve them while we are using it.
About flickr, i think it is a very useful website, as i know a large amount of people use it. Although at first i'm not used to how it works as i've never used it before, but it's actually quite easy to get used to. To have a website completely focused on photos has its good points too, compared to an all-in-one social networking site like facebook.
Through the lesson, I learnt that web 2.0 has got something to do with blogging and social networking. Examples of them would be facebook and twitter etc. These are the websites which almost everyone of us visit everyday. I also learnt about Flickr and got the chance to not only create an account but managed to upload pictures too. Its an interesting website but I find that it is not that good as compared to Facebook.
Web 2.0 has affected my life significantly as helps me to interact with my friends and family members so that we will not lose contact with one another. Other than that, web 2.0 is also good for us as the websites serve as a platform for us to talk about what we learnt for the lessons like what I am doing right now. In conclusion, Web 2.0 has helped us in work and personal life and it is definitely used by most of us out there but we also have to take note of how we use these websites.
You know what? I don't know that there are such things as Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 Well, that's what I am here for, to learn from the lecturers IT related education.
We all are using Web 2.0 They are everywhere in the Internet. Wikipedia,4shared.com,Flickr and more. We all use them because it they are useful in our lives to perform daily activities and social networking. I am grateful that there are such things that exist. It makes our life easier.
I finally know how to use Flickr. It was confusing at first but I got the hang of it later on. It was a great way of uploading pictures and tagging our friends on them. These pictures might have significant meanings behind them. By tagging and uploading, we will keep in touch with what had happened to us before. other than Flickr, there are Facebook and Twitter. Indeed, they play a huge part in our lives.
Web 1.0 was known as web and is referred to the first stage of the World Wide Web (WWW) linking webpages with hyperlinks. Most Web 1.0 sites are read only which means the user cannot do much other than reading the information off it, citing the site for reference and etc. In basic terms, Web 1.0 sites are Static pages instead of dynamic user-generated content. The next form of evolution was supposed to be semantic web which uses ontology. However it was a project that is still in the progress.
The thing that came after Web 1.0 was the function like tagging and etc. which is not really the semantic web and hence it was named Web 2.0. Most of our today website is run in PHP which is a common thing that most Web 2.0 sites shares. I have also learnt that in our era, there are many Web 2.0 sites like Facebook, Flickr and etc.
In regards to Flickr, it is mainly used as a media sharing platform for users to upload photos and shares it. It also supports tagging of people in them. Flickr is very useful for searching pictures that you need that is being shared by another user. For instance, I need a picture of Kumamoto castle that is located in japan. It would be much easier for me to use Flickr and search for the image of the castle that has picture of it taken and shared by another user instead of me flying over to japan just to take a picture of it.
All in all, Web 2.0 has changed the ways one uses of the internet.
Honestly, before the lesson, I didn't know much about Web 2.0. However, now I do know clearly what Web 2.0 is. The Internet would be a boring "place" without Web 2.0. Basically, just another article that's given on the screen. I think that 2.0 brings about interactive functions and such. This innovation had led to the creation of many social website such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogspot, etc. Web 2.0, I believe, is a sign that shows us how much we are developing in terms of the digital age.
Flickr is basically another Social Website, where one is able to share photos online with other people. It also supports tagging, which is also a function introduced in Web 2.0. I find that learning to use Flickr was pretty simple. I mean seriously, who wouldn't know how to make an account o.O?
Although I was constantly falling asleep in class during this lesson, I still felt like I've learned a lot about Web 2.0. I feel that the age of Semantic Web will soon arrive.
Before this lesson, I have no idea what Web 2.0 is all about. I thought that they are just websites and there is no special name for them. However, after the lesson I am more aware of it. I learnt that Web 2.0 is a site that allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media which is different from Web 1.0 whereby the World Wide Web just link webpages with hyperlinks. Web 2.0 includes social networking sites such as Facebook, blogs, Youtube etc. It is very interactive and better than Web 1.0 as we can do more things with it.
Flickr is an example of Web 2.0. I have heard of it before but never find the need to create an account. I like my privacy and feel uncomfortable to put my pictures in the net. Even though we can set our privacy settings, sometimes there are just ways where people can get to the photos. Nevertheless, it is a good and easy way to share photos with family and friends.
Web 2.0 has affected my life more than I know as it is everywhere, connects people and has become a part of my daily life. Now, it has become easy to know what my friends are up to by simply checking their Facebook page, reading their blog or twitter. Although it is good as I am connected to them, but sometimes it feels like there is a lack in the face to face interaction. I may feel that I am still in contact with them when we are actually not. It is quite sad but at least we are connected in the social network I guess.
Nonetheless, Web 2.0 has brought about great advancement in the evolution of the World Wide Web today and has helped us a lot. I look forward to what Web 3.0 will bring in the next generation of the Web.
Web 2.0 is a very interesting topic. Before Web 2.0 in Web 1.0, everything would be static. Only webmasters can change any information on their site. Then came a Web 2.0 site: Wikipedia, where anyone can edit the information on the site, providing other people with information you know. Other commonly used social networking sites we use daily such as Facebook and Twitter also uses Web 2.0 technologies. Without Web 2.0 we can never have a platform such as Facebook to communicate with our friends easily. Another important tool we used also uses Web 2.0 technologies, and that is Google. Without Web 2.0 Google will always be bringing results that may be irelevant to us. With Web 2.0 Google can get diffrent information from us such as location and determine what is the best results for us.
A Web 2.0 page that was introduced to us is Flickr. It is a image sharing site that have many features such as tagging, extracting EXIF data from a image and creating groups. It uses all the content created by users to give us better results from our searches. This is a very useful site for me as I am a photographer and Flickr allows me to easily find photographs to use as example by searching the lens type, aperture and shuttle speed. These information are stored in a image when the photo is taken with a SLR camera and Flickr can extract these data to be used for searching through, allowing me to easily find the kind of photograph I want.
But is Web 2.0 completely good? We just learnt last week about how the internet has caused Information Overload and Attention Deficiency. It is the same Web 2.0 technologies that allowed these to happen. It is Web 2.0 that allowed sites such as Google and Facebook to exist. It is due to Web 2.0 that Facebook is able to get our friend's status in realtime, which cause us to constantly switch to Facebook to check on our friend's status, thus causing Attention Deficiency. It is also due to Web 2.0 that Google is able to give us so many useful results that we are unable to process all these information, causing Information Overload. We can see that Web 2.0 is both good and bad.
On the lesson on Web 2.0, I learned the difference between Web 2.0, Web 1.0, and semantic webs. In actual use, I don't think I would be able to clearly tell the difference between what kind of webs certain websites are. There are obvious ones, of course, such as blogger and wikipedia, but some other websites I feel can be considered somewhat both in a way.
I find it kind of ironic that in the search of semantic webs, websites which can think and act on their own with less human intervention, we discovered Web 2.0, which requires even more human input than Web 1.0. Truthfully, I think that semantic webs isn't that far off in the future, as we already have the knowledge to be able to create split paths in programming, so we will be able to make the website do many things based on an initial input from the user of the page. Well, that is if we are still trying to make semantic webs. I feel that Web 2.0 might be becoming an addiction to people, as it makes the user have to be engrossed on the site to be able to affect it. This is bad as it prevents people from thinking about creating other things, such as semantic websites, as well as going out of their house and exercising. However, it does increase the social aspect of the world, in this internet world, so it isn't all bad.
Personally, I am a bit young to remember Web 1.0. So to me, Web 2.0 seemed like a trendy marketing word that is thrown around, a bit like social media in the recent elections.
But through the lesson, I discovered that many of the web applications that I use daily are actually part of Web 2.0. I look forward to the development of the next generation Web, while the semantic web sound ultra cool, I think that we will likely see a wide array of unexpected, revolutionary developments before it is realised.
Flickr is the embodiment of a Web 2.0 site, it is interactive, communal, feed/post based and ridiculously addictive. It makes me wonder what the next great step or Web 3.0 will hold.
If I had to take a guess, I would say it will be a semantic-like Operating System, where one's social media and news feeds are integrated into a dynamic desktop likely to be a touch screen. But whatever it is, I cannot wait to try it out!
Like everyone else, before the lesson, I had no clue whatsoever what is Web 2.0, is there even a Web 1.0? I then come to realise that the things I used everyday like Facebook is already and example of Web 2.0 which then struck me, I am ignorant of most things, especially when I come in contact with them everyday.
Its amazing to see how great minds evolved the web to what we call Web 2.0. I simply cannot imagine my life without it, in fact, I believe no one that I know will be able to achieve that.
The activity we did on Flickr, I feel it is very basic as all of us are already used to creating accounts and uploading stuffs to the net. Flickr and many other photo-sharing sites, in my point of view, has changed the world totally. Everyone can now post their photos online allowing the whole world to view it, creating a whole new level of stalking and one can expect criticism and Photoshopped pictures of themselves. This world has changed to be more open-minded with less privacy. Anything posted on the net, is public.
The Semantic Web, evolution of the Web 2.0, is the highly anticipated next big thing by everyone. Who doesn't? It is just marvelous to imagine how it would turn out, obviously better than Web 2.0. However, like everything else, it has its pros and cons. With Web 2.0, we already have 24/7 Facebook, cam whores, and people, like me, with no life spending their whole day on computer games, it would then be hard to imagine how worse it would be on Semantic Web, who knows, we may even have a whole new level of stalking, a 24/7 camera following everywhere you go.
In conclusion, the net can be a fun thing to play around with and as I have mentioned, it has its disadvantages too, mostly to feed our attention deficiency.
Before this lesson i did not know web 1.0 or 2.0 existed. However after this lesson, I learnt how a web can actually relate to a human life.
Flicker is something that i have never used, although i know many of my friends using it however because facebook was sufficient enough for me, I did not use flicker however after creating a new account for flicker i have learn that flicker have a lot of new functions which i'm quite fascinated with and i think i will continue using the flicker account.

Before the lesson, I never knew websites I visited frequently are part of Web 2.0
Web 2.0 has brought about changes to many. In the past, diaries existed for people to write about all the happenings in their day to day life. Now, most people blog about these things, be it using blogger, livejournal or any other sites.
Tagging of photos is another technology in Web 2.0. It has allowed us to tag our friends in photos and enable them to view it with just a click when the notification pops up (eg Facebook), instead of having to search for a picture. It can be a convenience to some, where in some cases you don't have to look through a whole lot of photos in your friend's account just to search for that photo of you your friend has just uploaded.
Flickr is mainly a site for us to share photos and videos. It was a hassle for me to create an account just for the lesson as I would not really return to upload photos. However, to me, it was a new way of experiencing something that is rather similar to facebook on the photo uploads.
This week's lesson was very insightful and changed my perspective towards the internet. I never knew there was such a thing called Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.
ReplyDeleteAfter the lesson I realised that there were many old websites that i used to visit before which were Web 1.0 and now i no longer go there, due to the fact that there are many new websites that are better because they are more interactive.

ReplyDeleteBefore this lesson, I had never used Flickr before and had only a vague understanding of what it does.

ReplyDeleteThe change towards web 2.0 is definitely welcome, as it has reshaped the internet as a whole.
ReplyDeleteWeb 2.0 helps to build everyone network via social websites, blogging and more.

ReplyDeleteAlso, i came to know that most of the websites that i usually visit are web 2.0 sites.

ReplyDeleteImagine if our website was not interactive, we couldn't like facebook statuses, couldn't click anything on the youtube page, or couldn't do any blogging.
ReplyDeleteWeb 2.0 has affected my life significantly as helps me to interact with my friends and family members so that we will not lose contact with one another.
ReplyDeleteWe all are using Web 2.0 They are everywhere in the Internet.

ReplyDeleteThe thing that came after Web 1.0 was the function like tagging and etc. which is not really the semantic web and hence it was named Web 2.0.

ReplyDeleteFlickr is basically another Social Website, where one is able to share photos online with other people.
Until next time!

ReplyDeleteFlickr is an example of Web 2.0.

ReplyDeleteA Web 2.0 page that was introduced to us is Flickr.

ReplyDeleteI find it kind of ironic that in the search of semantic webs, websites which can think and act on their own with less human intervention, we discovered Web 2.0, which requires even more human input than Web 1.0.

ReplyDeleteBut through the lesson, I discovered that many of the web applications that I use daily are actually part of Web 2.0.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing to see how great minds evolved the web to what we call Web 2.0.
ReplyDeleteHowever after this lesson, I learnt how a web can actually relate to a human life.

ReplyDeleteWeb 2.0 has brought about changes to many.
