I find AOQCC very useful. They're useful in such a way that it enables me to search for accurate and reliable information using these techniques. I also got to know that there are many people out there that are so 'free' to create such fraud websites to fool those researching in the Internet. Maybe, they were just trying to give us a laugh; their form of entertainment for us. Jokers! They are our cyber obstacles.
I find AOQCC very similar to what we had learn in Secondary school; SS &History source based question, where you compare the sources, be it the author, the content if it is bias or not. However, AOQCC teaches us on how to search for the right and reliable information on the nets.
&also i learnt that there are many parody & fraud websites created by "free" and boring people on the net. Some of the information may be correct but most of the information are just for jokes. So with AOQCC I can now identify which is the "real" website to look for reliable and useful information :D
I'm very glad to learn this AOQCC, so in the future if someone gives me a websited that looks weird i can use it to evaluate if the website is real or fake.
Other than that, i think its quite useful to have discussions on the controversial topics on death punishments and euthanasia, it lets us think deeper. Maybe sometimes it will turn into a debate or something, but it exposes us to sensitive topics like this and it's useful in a way!
I find that AOQCC is a very useful guideline for evaluating the reliability and accuracy of information. With AOQCC, i can now verify the reliability and accuracy of information on the web.
I think the discussion of controversial topics is useful as it allows us to think beyond our borders. Such discussion of controversial topics allow us to know about these kind of topics and how they affect people. In a way, the discussion allows us to appreciate the view points of others, and know why they support or do not support a particular issue. This also teaches us that there are many ways to look at an issue.
In the lesson on AOQCC, I gain an in-depth knowledge of separating real and fake sources. The lesson went on by making me understand and spot more details in a web page to help me identify which information in the web is true. The lesson also enriches me through the exercises which put the points we learn into use. AOQCC teaches me the means for finding real sources and I truly enjoy the flow of the lesson through real life examples on the web page! It is really exciting to identify real and fake information and to spot the key point of fake information, though I feel that the AOQCC can be shorten a bit through a first-hand experience on the web for students to understand it faster and easier.
All in all, I enjoy the lesson, especially the exercises given to us and for us to explore in more topics on the web which we students will not usually go. An example will be the searching for information about capital punishment, which I truly enjoy as the team I am in has different views towards. Finally, I wished that that kind of lesson can happen again in some time. And that’s all!
I think that learning AOQCC helps me a lot, as I learn not to trust every site that i go to because it might not be the official site. Through this lesson I have also found many ways of inferring if the website is real or not. In the cyber world many people get conned due to this fake websites and I think this knowledge of what we learn should be spread hence people would not be easily conned!
After Learning AOQCC, I found it a little bit similar to Social Studies that I was forced to learn in secondary school, with the skills like cross-references, checking for biasedness and so on. Also, from the site layout, I can infer that with a lousy unprofessionally done website, it is probably bogus. Since there is a lot of information on the web, it is very important to be equipped with AOQCC as getting the true and reliable information is very important.
In society today, with the skill AOQCC, doing research or getting the right news off the web is much easier. Therefore I would conclude that it is very important that skills like AOQCC exists to allow user like you and I to enjoy reading up information off the wide internet after verifying it's credibility.
Actually, I find AOQCC a bit like common sense in a way? But nonetheless, it was a fruitful lesson. Now I can decide if a certain source is reliable or not. This would prove to be very useful in future lessons for any classes, especially when researching is involved.
The discussion was also pretty enjoyable. It was like a mini debate session. I think the topic on "killing" was pretty interesting. It was interesting to see people's opinion on the matter. But I still do think execution and death sentence is wrong D:
I've also learned that there are a lot of "no-life" and bored people all around the world. Just so funny how they make spoof sites because they're BORED. Wow. Nonetheless, we need such people in order for us to train our "Reliability and Credibility Testing Skills".
I think it was an awesome lesson overall. Looking forward to the next CIS class! Tune in to more Glen's Comment Corner next week! :D

PS: I hereby swear that this has been written by Glen and it's really really a reliable and credible source! :D
I find AOQCC extremly interesting and useful. Nowadays we can easily search for any information we want on the internet, but are we sure its correct? With AOQCC we can easily ensure that the information we find are correct and reliable. I find it quite similar to social studies where we have to cross-reference diffrent sources to find the reliability of a source, except in this case we have to find those sources ourselves using google. We can't always google up every single site we find, as such learning how to determine a site's reliability through its design, content etc. definetly helps save time. Finding out if diffrent sites were real or fake is definetly fun.
The discussion on the controvesial topics was also interesting. As the topics were controvesial, finding any reliable information can be hard as we have to seperate facts and opinions. My group was doing Euthansia and both articles in the sites given claimed to have came from the same source. By using AOQCC we manage to determine that one of them is fake and thus information in that article is likely to be opinions. As such we used the other site which is highly likely to be reliable and should be facts instead of biased opinions.
AOQCC is definetly extremly important nowadays, with the uprising of social networking sites like facebook and twitter. We can't always trust information that people posts and we must ensure to use AOQCC to determine if what people post is reliable or not. A good example is that there have been an increase of people clicking links seemingly to intersting videos but instead will force you to "Like" that link (which is a javascript file to take over your facebook and start spamming that link to everyone through posts and your chatbox) and then force you to do a survey, after all this you get nothing out of it.
Other than using to check the reliability of information on the internet, I feel AOQCC can be applied to another area: social engineering. By using the knowledge of determining if a site is reliable or a fake, we can improve malicious sites we create by fixing all the things using AOQCC can detect. Its by making such sites that we can find out what other ways we can use to determine if such a site is real or fake and thus improving the AOQCC method.
After this lesson on AOQCC, I learnt that many websites might not have reliable informations even though the website might seem reliable. Therefore, we have to identify whether the website is reliable before we trust the website and get the information that we need from the website.
The activity for us to check some of the unreliable website was good as it let us apply what we've learn immediately and thus allowing us to learn better through this hands on activity.
Lastly, the last part of the lesson was very interesting as we get to voice out our opinion on the topic given to us. I hope that we can have more of such lessons in the future
AOQCC is definitely useful in determining the legitimacy of websites (at least 80% of the time). With skills such as cross referencing, we can better tell if a website is providing true or false information. This will ensure that we get the most accurate information and not some made up news or parody.
I don't think there are many cons to AOQCC, since it is a very essential skill in researching on the internet and even in real life, when we are determining who is speaking the truth and who is telling a lie. The only down side I can think of is that it may be a little time consuming to check the website thoroughly and cross reference the site with other sites. But all in all, it is worth it.
I've learnt alot about the importance of such skills which I not only can use in my future projects but also in my career next time.
The knowledge of AOQCC is useful as I now know a proper routine to validate a source of information. It is also good knowing that AOQCC is an accepted standard across many institutions, hence this will assist me in my assignments.
The last activity of that session intrigued me most as it clearly shows that everyone has their own opinion; from my viewpoint, I believe strongly against capital punishment (and I have clear reasons for doing so), however some of my classmates shared a different opinion. It shows that we have our different beliefs (not that we're evil etc.).
AOQCC definitely has taught me ways of determining the reliability of a website and I cannot express in words how important this is in today's IT world with fake websites all over the world, especially when we are doing research on a certain topic.
However, in my opinion, I feel this is too much of a trouble. An example, when we are just surfing the net casually,we come across many websites, are we going to go through each and every step of the AOQCC for each and every website? No, we normally would judge it based on our own instincts in which most of the time is right.
In conclusion, the AOQCC is undoubtedly a good method to determine a website but it may not be used very often as we humans already posses instincts to differetiate between the truth and a fake.
I feel that due to the tremendous influx of information that the internet offers, many savvy users have unconsciously developed a system of evaluating sources. On the other hand, there are many people who are inundated by the volume of information and cannot simply tune it out.
For both these groups of people, the AOQCC guidelines present a simple way to either confirm their instinct or arrive at a conclusion.
As the recent General Elections have shown, the role of Social Media and the internet is rapidly taking the forefront in evermore areas. In light of these developments, the ability to evaluate sources using the AOQCC guidelines has increased tremendously as the information will shape the future of our country.
As for the activity, I felt it offered a glimpse into world issues and how often seemingly credible information can come from unreliable sources. Nowhere are opinions more diverse and freely shared as on the internet, being able to filter the insights from the mud-slinging is a skill that will only increase in value
AOQCC is useful for determining whether a source is reliable or not when trying to find information from different points of view, as well as factual information, though in reality, I don't think I would be able to remember AOQCC, and I would probably be using just common sense to determine whether the site is real or fake. The lesson was interesting, as many of these sites I was asked to visit I had never seen before. They were interesting and some were really funny. Also, it reminded me to remember to think about the source of the content, as some sites might be biased in certain views which could be reflected in the information they give. By Lewis Koh
I find AOQCC a very useful guideline in determining the reliability and accuracy of a certain website page. As the internet is a vast open media space, it is good to follow such guideline to determine which site is genuine and which site is fake so as to get better, accurate and reliable information while surfing the net.
Also by doing the activites assigned together with our groups,i have learned how to determine if a website is genuine or not by using the help of other websites such wikipedia and search engines such as google.
i learnt a lot of thing from this week's lesson; there is a organisation that is against Singapore's law of sentencing people to death by hanging; and i also got to know a bit more about euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Many people including me, know that there is a lot of information out in the internet that cannot be trusted and we need to be careful in picking out the best and most accurate information that we require from the internet. Thus AOQCC was not something new to me as i have practiced it before, even though then, i did not know it was know as AOQCC.
The activity of figuring out which websites was quite fun was as we got to see many websites that had a lot of stupid, funny and fake information. The website with showcased a so called genetically engineered monkey was the funniest, in mi opinion as it had the most stupid information and the fact that a monkey could communicate with us in perfect English through typing was hilarious. The fact that we could chat online with the monkey was seriously interesting. Even though i knew that the site was bogus, i still went ahead with trying to chat with the monkey. When i made stupid comments i noticed that it gave the same answer almost every time. It was a fun exercise which helped us understand that not all the information out in the internet is real.
The second activity involved us to get into groups and find information about a topic and present the information. We were given the topic of Euthanasia and assisted suicide. I had always thought that these two meant the same thing however i was wrong was after doing some research i realized that they were different; Euthanasia is when a doctor end a person's life if he is brain dead, after getting consent form the family members; assisted suicide on the other hand means that the doctor provide a mean for the patient to take his life, for example the doctor can provide the patient a syringe containing poison and the patient can inject himself to end his/ her life.
I also got to lean that there are some organisations that are against the death sentence that is implemented in Singapore. Personally, i feel that this law is good, as it deters others from committing crimes like murder. Most people argue that these people should be given a chance to reform, personally i think that people who normally are given out death sentences are criminals who have done many crimes before if they did not change before i don't think they will change now. Thus it is best we just hang them so that they no longer cause suffering and pain in the society. It also would not be practical to put these people in life in prison as that would cause them to occupy space in the prison, the food and daily needs for these people would require money, which normally come from the taxes acquired form the public. Singapore being such a small country it would not be practical to just accumulate these type of people in the prison and space is limited. I also feel that the money that is wasted on these criminals is hard earned money of the public which should be used to develop the country and not be wasted on trying to keep a murderer alive.
Thus i think that this weeks lesson taught me a lot about the information on the web and how we can make sure that we are not tricked by some websites that are fake and mislead us.
This week lesson is very beneficial for future use as we learn how to evaluate the credibility of information source using AOQCC. This will be very useful when we do our projects as we get a lot of information from the internet and it is important to differentiate the reliable websites from the unreliable ones. Going through the list of websites is fun as I did not know that there are so many fraudulent websites and some are really hilarious. It is funny to know that some people might actually believe it if they do not have AOQCC knowledge. The topic discussion is very interesting as well as it involves sensitive topics such as capital punishment, euthanasia and assisted suicide. Different people have different opinions on it but we all agreed that it depends on the situation and it is on a case by case basis. All in all it is an enriching learning experience as I get something out of it. :) Written by Basirah =)

AOQCC is a very useful skill that we can use in life. We can use it to decipher what's more accurate to the acutal information on internet sites and even on videos. Some videos and pictures may seem real due to the advanced technology in editing and photoshop. With AOQCC, we can actually link information given with the picture's quality and other factors before we determine if we want to believe in that news/information!
In addition, the topic on capital punishment is very interesting as different people have different opinions and it is a two sided question to whether we're supportive of it or not. Hence, it is difficult to come to a complete conclusion with a one sided view. However, I still feel that I'm not for capital punishment as even if the criminal is being hanged to death, you can't bring the victim back to life. There can always be other ways to let the criminal serve his sentence for his actions.
The lesson was fruitful and interesting and we should have more discussions like these!!! (Maybe we can have a simple debate where we can only take one stand, for or against and not both!)
The AOQCC is no doubt a reliable tool to test the credibility of a website and i cannot express in words how important it is, especially in today's IT world.
However, I feel that this AOQCC is more of a trouble. For example, we come across many websites even when we are casually surfing, and are we going to go through each and every steps in the AOQCC for each and every website? No, no one would normally do that. We mostly depend on what we call instincts in which most of time is right.
In conclusion, the AOQCC may be a good method but not very practical as it is too much of a trouble when we humans already posses instincts to differentiate between the truth and a fake.

I learnt a lot of thing from this week's lesson; there are some organisation thaqt do not support Singapore's death sentence; the difference between assisted suicide and euthaniasia; fianlly i learnt that not all the information on the internet can be trusted.
Many people including me, know that not all the information we get from the net is true, thus i thought that the lesson about AOQCC was not something new for me. I have always done what is necessary to get appropritate to get the right information from the internet. However, when i used AOQCC to evaluate the information, withoout realising that iwas using AOQCC. The activity of trying to find out which websites were bogus was really entertaining, as we got to see many website that had so stupid information that it was hilarious. the most memorable website was the one that talked about a genetically engineered monkey who could communicate with us by typing in fluent English. We even tried to chat with it and found out that it was actaully a program that gave automated answers to anything that we said, however at the end it actaully told us that it was a april fools joke.
The inforamion about Singapore's death sentencing was really interestng as i got to know how different people think about this issue. I personally feel that the death sentence is a smart and fitting sentence for murderers, as it is practical. Singapore is a very small country and we have land constrainst if we accumulate all these people in the prison we would soon have no more space left to house other criminals which would be a major problem. Many would argue that the criminals should be given a chance to change and repent for their sins. However most of these criminals are past convicts and if they did not change before i really doubt that they will change now. Furthermore their living expenses, would be coming out of the government's money, which can be costly if you wish to keep a convict for 20 years. This money is acquired from taxes which is the hard earned money of the working citizens of Singapore, and istead of being spent of criminals i think it should be spent on trying to improve the lifes of Singaporeans.
I had heard about euthanasia and assisted suicide before. However, I always thought that both of them were the same thing. However i leanr that euthanasia is when a doctor kills a paitent who is brain dead, after the paitient's family gives its consent, while assisted suicide is when a doctor provide a means for a terminally ill paitient to end his life. This is not allowed in many countries and is allowed according to the case, as people can misuse this to suicide or to kill family members that they see as a burden to them.
In conclusion i think that this week's lesson was very intersting and we should always Use AOQCC to evaluate information on the internet
The AOQCC is undoubtedly a reliable method to test the credibility of a website and i cannot express in word how important it is in today's IT world.
However, it may be more a hassle. For example, we come across lots of websites when we are just casually surfing and are we going to use each and every step of the AOQCC on each an devery website? No, we would normally depend on what we call instincts.

ReplyDeleteAlso by doing the activites assigned together with our groups,i have learned how to determine if a website is genuine or not by using the help of other websites such wikipedia and search engines such as google.

i learnt a lot of thing from this week's lesson; there is a organisation that is against Singapore's law of sentencing people to death by hanging; and i also got to know a bit more about euthanasia and assisted suicide.
ReplyDeleteMany people including me, know that there is a lot of information out in the internet that cannot be trusted and we need to be careful in picking out the best and most accurate information that we require from the internet.
ReplyDeleteGoing through the list of websites is fun as I did not know that there are so many fraudulent websites and some are really hilarious.

AOQCC is definitely useful in determining the legitimacy of websites (at least 80% of the time). With skills such as cross referencing, we can better tell if a website is providing true or false information. This will ensure that we get the most accurate information and not some made up news or parody.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there are many cons to AOQCC, since it is a very essential skill in researching on the internet and even in real life, when we are determining who is speaking the truth and who is telling a lie. The only down side I can think of is that it may be a little time consuming to check the website thoroughly and cross reference the site with other sites. But all in all, it is worth it.
I've learnt alot about the importance of such skills which I not only can use in my future projects but also in my career next time.

ReplyDeleteIn addition, the topic on capital punishment is very interesting as different people have different opinions and it is a two sided question to whether we're supportive of it or not.

ReplyDeleteHowever, I feel that this AOQCC is more of a trouble.

I learnt a lot of thing from this week's lesson; there are some organisation thaqt do not support Singapore's death sentence; the difference between assisted suicide
ReplyDeleteand euthaniasia; fianlly i learnt that not all the information on the internet can be trusted.
Many people including me, know that not all the information we get from the net is true, thus i thought that the lesson about AOQCC was not something new for me. I
have always done what is necessary to get appropritate to get the right information from the internet. However, when i used AOQCC to evaluate the information, withoout
realising that iwas using AOQCC. The activity of trying to find out which websites were bogus was really entertaining, as we got to see many website that had so stupid
information that it was hilarious. the most memorable website was the one that talked about a genetically engineered monkey who could communicate with us by typing in
fluent English. We even tried to chat with it and found out that it was actaully a program that gave automated answers to anything that we said, however at the end it
actaully told us that it was a april fools joke.
The inforamion about Singapore's death sentencing was really interestng as i got to know how different people think about this issue. I personally feel that the death
sentence is a smart and fitting sentence for murderers, as it is practical. Singapore is a very small country and we have land constrainst if we accumulate all these
people in the prison we would soon have no more space left to house other criminals which would be a major problem. Many would argue that the criminals should be given
a chance to change and repent for their sins. However most of these criminals are past convicts and if they did not change before i really doubt that they will change
now. Furthermore their living expenses, would be coming out of the government's money, which can be costly if you wish to keep a convict for 20 years. This money is
acquired from taxes which is the hard earned money of the working citizens of Singapore, and istead of being spent of criminals i think it should be spent on trying to
improve the lifes of Singaporeans.
I had heard about euthanasia and assisted suicide before. However, I always thought that both of them were the same thing. However i leanr that euthanasia is when a doctor
kills a paitent who is brain dead, after the paitient's family gives its consent, while assisted suicide is when a doctor provide a means for a terminally ill paitient
to end his life. This is not allowed in many countries and is allowed according to the case, as people can misuse this to suicide or to kill family members that they see as
a burden to them.
In conclusion i think that this week's lesson was very intersting and we should always Use AOQCC to evaluate information on the internet
The AOQCC is undoubtedly a reliable method to test the credibility of a website and i cannot express in word how important it is in today's IT world.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it may be more a hassle. For example, we come across lots of websites when we are just casually surfing and are we going to use each and every step of the AOQCC on each an devery website? No, we would normally depend on what we call instincts.
In conclusion, the AOQCC may be a good method but not very practical as people nowadays are getting lazier and usually depend on their instincts to determine between the truth and a fake which most of the time are accurate.
